A Panerai Watches For Heroes

Every personality in history or even during our contemporary times gets a watch dedicated by diverse watch companies and Mike Horn is wearing one made especially for him. In case you have not heard about Mike Horn, he is the man who travelled around the world from the Ecuador downwards in 1999, he has crossed the north polar circle on foot in 2004 and in 2006 he went to the North Pole, on foot, at night, in a full winter. It is no wonder that he gets top sponsors from different industries, his equipment being almost entirely designed from custom made elements, to resist extreme conditions.

As we were saying, the replica watches that he is wearing, a PANERAI Pam 307 is dedicated to him. On the back lid are his signature and a map of the world. This is not a new model, the Panerai 307 Luminor from 1950 having been launched in 2008 in a limited edition of 500 pieces. The watch is made of a titanium carcass, 47 mm big in which we find the Panerai mechanism, of PO XV caliber. It can resist up to 120 meter below water, with a depth indicator which is activated by a button found at the hour 10. It has functions that show the maximum admitted depth, with an indicator that shows the current depth and an indicator for the batteries¡¯ power (it is difficult to make a mechanical watch work at -60 degrees Celsius, and that is why this mechanism was invented).

This kind of watch is sold at $18.000, and a lot of the money goes to the expeditions that Mike does with young explorers.

Panerai is also known for manufacturing watches and other instruments for the Royal Italian Marine. The company has known a wave of notoriety with the taking-over of the luxury magnate Richemont at clonesbar watches. Their over dimensioned models with a masculine design were at the time a welcomed alternative to the classic watches of the luxury segment.
One of the newest watch models is Luminor 1950 3 Days, made of stainless steel with the classic Panerai carcass. The model is basically a classic one but the designers have modernized some small elements making the watch quite an innovation. The Panerai watches keep their big dimension and the arch that protects the button. The look of these watches was created in the 20th century, which makes them very easily to stop and name.
